Frequently Asked Questions
Multiply all ingredients by the same factor. To double a recipe, multiply by 2. To halve, multiply by 0.5. For 6 servings from a 4-serving recipe, multiply by 1.5. Our calculator does this math for each ingredient.
Most do, but some exceptions exist. Yeast, baking powder, and salt often need less than linear scaling for large batches. Cooking time may change significantly. Spices can be adjusted to taste rather than strict multiplication.
1 cup = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons. 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons. For weight: 1 cup flour ≈ 120g, 1 cup sugar ≈ 200g. Weight measurements are more accurate than volume for baking.
Scale pan area proportionally. To double a 9" round recipe, use a 13" pan (area doubles from 63 to 133 sq in). Or use two 9" pans. For square pans, multiply sides by √scale factor.
